I chance upon this stall selling Yun Nam Claypot Delights and thought it looks interesting. I order a mushroom Yun Nan Mee Xian ($4.80). While waiting, I read the story written in Mandarin how this dish came about.
Long time ago in Yun Nan, a loving couple move to a place so that the husband can study for 状元。The wife wanted to make sure husband has something to eat and started to cook chicken soup but she notice the soup will turn cold so she discover putting chicken oil on top of soup will help to keep soup warm. Husband drank soup daily to study really hard and finally gotten the imperial scholar. So the rest named this dish 过桥米线 because the wife have to cross a bridge daily to deliver this to the husband.
I was quite surprised that the soup is quite nice. It has this ma la taste but not spicy at all. The noodles is thinner version of 粗米粉。I don't mind trying this again.
