First day of May (and Labour Day) ((western, spagetti, toa payoh, seafood, lunch))

I love Saturdays! Who doesn't? The weather is sunny and hot. Time passes so fast and it is May already. So what are you going to do on Labour's Day?

I have gravings for my favourite western food store. Today I order seafood spagetti (only $5) . It tastes as good as those found in restaurants such as Swenson, TCC and most importantly it is cheap. The tomato sauce is thick and the prawns are big and chewy. Yummy! A good start for weekends.

I took a photo of the store so that if you are interested, you can find this store at Kim Keat Avenue multi story carpark next to Shop and Save.

Black Pig Ramen

I let my dinner companion choose what to eat today which I normally let others think because I am lazy. The choice is Japanese cuisine which narrows down to only one choice in Somerset 313 located at B1 called Tarafuku Fish Market Restaurant. I realise it is from the famous Japanese ramen restaurant Tampopo. I tend to order unusual food to try and inclined to spicy food hence I ordered a chilli pork udon ($10.80). I recommended my companion to choose ramen instead because I heard it is Tampopo speciality so my companion ordered black pig shabu ramen ($13.80). We decided to share 50% of each other's food so that we can try both. This is only works on gluttons who don't care about hygenie. And I thought it was brilliant and might suggest to closer friends in future. :P The black pig shabu ramen tastes so much better. The soup and meat was the winner. I was mildly upset when I didn't notice the waitress took away the soup because I wanted to finish the leftovers. As for the udon, it is normal. The soup tastes like normal udon soup with chilli.

Bliss Level: Medium (Because I only have 50% of the shabu ramen)

Black Pig Shabu Ramen

Out of curiousity, I googled black pig and found out it is called Kurobuta in Japanese. Finest Tonkatsu uses this type of meat.

Back to Kampung Days

I always lament that there is no nearby coffee places near office as most need to walk quite a distance.

Finally an Old Town White Coffee clone called Kampung Days opens near office. They serve daily set meals which include a dish and a canned drink that cost $6.90 Strangely I cannot swap the drink for teh instead. Friday set meal is otak fried rice. The rice taste average and otak is nothing special too. The only good thing is the cafe ambience.

Juices quench thirst

I notice there is recent spout of fruit juice bars.

Anyway I was looking for drinks again because I was thirsty and spotted this kiosk called Tracy Juice at Vivocity basement. What attracts me was they don't sell common fruit juices and only sell a few selections, mainly wheat grass, beetroot, guava, avocado and others. Most are sold out and hence I bought guava at a cost of $4.50. (That is not cheap again!) Well at least it did quench my thirst.

Fast food is best choice when you are in a rush

When you are in a rush, fast food is really the best alternative. I don't often eat Carl's Junior frequently and was pretty lost which burger to order at the counter as the burgers look all the same. I order the portobello burger combo set which cost $12.50 (not cheap). The burger tastes not bad with BBQ flavoured watery mushroom.

Anyone has any recommendations on what other CJ burgers are worth a try?

First time to Resort World Sentosa

Unfortunately I am not here for fun. There is company function for the afternoon. But I will explore this place later. What I ate was company catered buffet and food isn't fantastic. I didn't take any photos thinking it might not be a good idea to share company events photos too.

Is this noodle called Hokkien mee?

I wonder why it is called Hokkien mee but I have calling this dish that name. But thanks to this plate of hokkien noodle. My bliss level went up. I have been eating at this Zi Char store so frequently that their food has become my taste buds. Seriously you got to try their stuff and I will be introducing more dishes in future. This Hokkien mee is one of the best to date that I have eaten and have eaten countless times.

In case I forget to mention this store is located at Kim Keat Ave under multi storey carpark and next to Shop and Save.

Worst drink I ever drank

While I was waiting for friends to arrive, I bought this drink called iced matcha tea from this stall besides bugis ground level box office. I thought it look nice and vaguely remember I ate some nice green tea ice cream at this location. The drink tasted diluted like water with green tea taste. I was hoping the ice cream can compensate but it tastes horrid. I wasted $3 for this. Don't be deceived by it's looks.

Lunch Appointment - Korean Food

Today I had lunch appointment with friends in competitor's companies to pass them some tickets. This sounds very wrong but seriously, we don't talk about work. Friend recommended this Korean restaurant at Chervon House's basement called The palace. As usual, I will order the Korean ramen although normally I can get it at home by cooking Korean instant noodles. I ordered the noodle with egg and chicken and sadly my dish came with the normal bowl instead of a metal "gong". I took 2 pictures for everyone to see. Lunch costs $6.50.

Home cooked chicken mushroom rice

I had a late dinner because I was still full from lunch. I told my mother to cook one of my favourite dish - Chicken mushroom rice. As mothers, they always add some vegetables to make sure you have a healthy diet. She also added fried shallots to add crisp and enhance taste to the rice.

By the way, I end up eating two plates of what you see in this photo if you think the portion is little.

Gravings

Do you have craving at times? Today I feel like eating 炸酱面 and hence suggested to my colleagues to go to the usual and famous restaurant nearby. After I finish my noodle, I realise I forget to take a picture so I took picture of the other stuff we ordered to share instead. Each person paid $12.50.

What is mummy cooking tonight?

My mother tends to cook a huge portion when the family is home for dinner. Today she cooks fried salmon, stir fry brocollii, stir fry ginger chicken and finally a big pot of soup. I love her soup most and it's typically herbal soup with herbs that I have no idea what they are called. She tend to put huge amount of ingredients to brew it and make it taste good.
